Beyond poor grades and the challenge of a difficult class, lies a student who often feels out of step with school life as he knows it! The daily rigors of classes, note taking, teacher presentations and never ending homework become all consuming. In fact, they become larger than life. And, while parents often focus on grades as a measure of a student’s command of school, the child often sees grades as a measure of his command of life.
More often than not, our tutors will encounter a student whose biggest challenge is not the class material at hand. Instead, it is the student’s lack of confidence that becomes the obstacle to moving ahead. As tutors we must see beyond the subject material and into the student’s heart and soul. We must empower the individual first and the student second. We must paint a bigger picture that puts a student’s life into perspective: school, grades, family, friends, fun, health, happiness!
At the end of the day, our success as Learning in Motion tutors is measured in many ways. Students achieve higher grades, students have new found interests in a subject area, students display more confidence in test taking, students do not mind asking for help.
